Montreal Campus

What do Ubisoft, Eidos, Bethesda, Rogue Factor, Minority Media, and Kitfox Games all have in common? They are among the hundreds of game studios peppered across Montreal. The curriculum for every Game Studio major is built to accommodate a semester abroad at our Montreal campus, where you can continue your game curriculum.

It is no accident that Champlain’s Montreal campus is situated right in the middle of the action. Champlain organizes visits and tours with local studios for students studying on its Montreal campus, where you can talk with professionals and see how they create and develop games. We also invite developers to visit the campus, demo games, and organize play testing sessions.

Study Where the Pros Are

Montreal is recognized as one of the top game hubs in the world, host to over a hundred game companies of all sizes, including AAA companies (Ubisoft, Warner Bros., Epic Games, and EA), studios (Behaviour Interactive, Compulsion Games, Gameloft, Ludia), and a vibrant indie scene created by masters of the industry looking for more creative freedom. As a Champlain student, you can head north of the border to check out studios with some of the industry’s best.

Experience the Culture

In Montreal, you can immerse yourself in the life of the city. It’s a place that loves a good summer festival—you can spend a day or two exploring comedy, jazz, film, fashion, and more. It has professional sports teams for hockey, Canadian football, and soccer. The botanical gardens and biodome sit side-by-side and can offer hours of oasis from urban life. Explore the underground city, built to help people stay out of the cold but offering so much more including shopping, museums, and yes—another festival.

Ubisoft Game Lab

Each Spring, two teams of Montreal Champlain students attend and compete in the Ubisoft Game Lab competition. During the competition, students have 10 weeks to deliver a playable video game prototype that follows the theme, guidelines, and constraints given by a jury of Ubisoft professionals.

Students are mentored by Ubisoft staff, and are given the chance to meet with game studio leaders, and even earn scholarship money and land a future internship or career with a Montreal game studio.

Seven Majors. One Experience.

The Game Studio at Champlain College is the premier program for students looking to get a professional game development experience from day one of their education. Take major-specific classes and learn the skills and techniques that go into building your favorite games. Work as a team with other game students and construct fully functional games that you can download, play, and publish. By graduation, you’ll be prepared to succeed in a rewarding career in game development. At the Game Studio, we don’t simulate what game development could look like—we put you in the middle of the real game studio experience.
